Southern Star Observation Wheel set to open

Southern Star Observation Wheel set to open

04/12/2008

The Southern Star Observation Wheel stands to be an exciting new attraction for Melbourne and is finally due to open this week after storms caused delays last week.

The wheel is just short of the London Eye's height at 120 metres, but is the only example in the Southern Hemisphere and is expected to offer views of up to 40 km. The 21 air conditioned cabins, each holding 20 passengers, take 30 minutes to complete their flight and the adult prices are set at $29.

There are some pretty impressive statistics from the building works. It used 1,650 tonnes of steel, 38,000 bolts and 12,500 square metres of paint! It's down by Waterfront City and the Telstra Dome.

If you're heading to Melbourne, take a look at the Southern Star Observation Wheel website.
